Earlier this month the Cachet Digital team caught up with the lovely creative director behind blog Cranberry Tantrums. I have been following her for some time and I can tell you that the first thing that caught my eye was Jennifer’s overall style and confidence. I like that she’s fashionable but still mixes trends with classic pieces. I am more of a classic girl myself because I came to age in New England—where preppy separates and smart east coast styling was popular. Jennifer manages to try out various trends without the try-hard trendy look I often see on my timeline. If you are a fan of shoes and coats then you will go ga-ga over her collection. She is great with her use of color, monotone and various shades of the same color. I have always believed a well dressed woman wears well tailored items. Stretchy form fitting clothes are great but I like to see how a woman can style clothing with various shapes and Jennifer does it well! Classic pieces tend to stay in your wardrobe over the years. I know Chicago is often called the “windy city” how does that play into your wardrobe choices:
Chicago’s temperamental weather is perfect for some creative fashion choices. Quite honestly, it is a love-hate relationship, I am not a fan of wintery temps. However, Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons for fashion. It is quite fun trying to find a balance between staying warm and looking stylish. The trick is mastering the art of layering and investing in some amazing statement coats. I think you can tell who the truly stylish people are based on their sartorial choices during the colder months. Summer/ Spring Fashion is so much easier and laid back.
I would definitely call you the Queen of coats. I love seeing your daily fashion on my timeline.
What 3 type of coats are your favorite for any fashionista’s closet:
“Queen of Coats”! Can we make that an official title? (lol). I am very flattered by the kind words, thank you. I tend to collect coats in the Winter months. This year, I found myself obsessed with Military inspired coats for some badass chic vibes. I also love red coats because they always look good and always make a statement. For work meetings and more laid back events, I can alway rely on my tailored Camel coat for that timeless classic look.
I remember going to Fashion Focus Week Chicago a few years ago. What is the fashion scene like in Chicago now and where should fashion obsessed individuals go if there on a visit:
Fashion in Chicago is quickly evolving and growing and I couldn’t be more proud. Find fashion girls in the most aesthetically pleasing places like the Langham Hotel which is one of my personal favorites; oak street for shopping and Three Arts Cafe for brunch in decor heaven.
How did you get into blogging and what has it added to your life:
Blogging is an outlet for creativity, a chance to take off the nurses hat and experiment with color, fashion and writing. It is literally therapy for me sometimes and has brought me some of my closest friends in Chicago.
Tell us something your instagram followers don’t know:
My idea of a perfect workout is a 60min solo dance session.
What is your advice to other young ladies looking to get into the blogging game:
Just do it! You will never feel 100% ready, but you will figure it out along the way! Get to know other bloggers and learn from them.
Who are your style inspirations:
Everyone, everything, Instagram! I am inspired by anything from runway couture to street style, and even architecture. There is always an element around you that can be incorporated in fashion. My love for color comes from my Nigerian roots and my Mom!
So we all know you are simply fabulous but tell us a bit about some of your professional goals?
The transition of Cranberry Tantrums from hobby to business happened gradually. I can’t wait to see how much more it could grow. I would love to work with Balmain, Gucci and Chanel someday.
What recommendations do you have for professional women seeking to try new trends. I have a lot of friends who feel left behind the curve. Their wardrobes are bad and they’ve let their professional lives suck the flavor out of their style:
Seek inspiration from blogs and Instagram accounts. Your favorite bloggers know the tricks to trying new trends for work and play, even on a budget. Trends come and go, don’t splurge on those. Instead, opt for budget friendly pieces and invest in timeless classics.
